I’m moving blogs!

I finally transitioned to a self-hosted blog and would love for you to follow me over there!

Lush BIG shampoo review

I am a lady of many interests, and as it happens, beauty / skincare / haircare, are up there as some of my favorite things to talk about. To start off, I have fine, soft hair, and a LOT of it. It’s currently short/medium length, and it’s extremely easy to take care of. My only issue is that it goes a bit oily and flat the day after washing it.

I’ve read and heard so many varied reviews on the Lush BIG shampoo. This shampoo is unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. It’s a gel-like consistency (thinner than gel, definitely not sticky), with HUUUUGE chunks of sea salt in it. I found it weird to work the sea salt into my hair, but I generally trust Lush products and trusted the shampoo.

My verdict?
I love it. It did give me tons of volume, and while it doesn’t feel as softening as other shampoos in lush, it really gave my hair texture as well as that super clean feeling. I hate washing my hair and feeling like there’s still product in it once I get out of the shower. If you have extremely dry or course hair this is NOT THE SHAMPOO FOR YOU. If you’re like me and have soft, fine hair – you should absolutely give it a go!

Have you ever tried this shampoo? What are your thoughts on it?

Cool bits and pieces

The sun is slowly starting to show its face more and more frequently, and with that come little shopping trips where you get things that aren’t (necessarily) necessities, but they make you smile. Today I’m writing to you from my balcony, as I soak up the sun on a gorgeous weekend in Brussels.

Yesterday I discovered a store called “& other stories”. There were a lot of gorgeous pieces of clothing, although a bit on the pricier side (but nothing too extravagant). What really caught my eye was their sleek and minimalist skincare collection. I left the store with one skincare item, one accessory, and all the willpower in me to not spend all of my money in there.

First off, I got these really cool sunglasses! They have clear frames, they’re mirrored, and I feel like they fit my face perfectly. I was in desperate need for sunglasses, but I kept passing up buying any because they didn’t feel right. These, on the other hand – they’re beautiful, and edgy and I’m in love. Also, they were 15 euros which is a total steal.

I couldn’t find the exact ones on their site, but you can have a look around at the other models they have:

Next, skincare. I wanted to try everything they had in the store but I convinced myself that I needed to try the formulas first before committing to buying everything that looked magical (which was everything, to be honest with you). I opted for the Moroccan Tea Body Soufflé and I couldn’t be happier that I did. It smells like mint, and tea, and cinnamon. The scent is clean, soothing, calming, and it has insane staying power. I applied it all over my body after a bath last night, and I woke up smelling amazing. I’m certain that the contents of this pot are going to vanish quickly. It’s 12 euros, which again, not exactly the cheapest, but we’re definitely not talking high end.

You can get it here:

And last, but not least – let’s talk clothing. I’m a curvy girl, and lately – my body has gone through a lot of changes. I’m happier, I’m healthier, and I feel way more comfortable in my body. I even got a top that I was always told wasn’t for curvy girls. Oh yes, the dreaded horizontal stripes. They might not be the most flattering, but I don’t need to look the thinnest version of myself in order to be the happiest version of myself. I love the fit, the crazy sleeves, and I think the stripes are cute!

I picked it up from Pull&Bear:

Cool, I think that’s all I’ve got for you today. Remember to do little things for yourself because you’re worth it, damn it.

Yep, that’s definitely all of it.

Creative Potential

I’ve hit a wall where it seems like all creativity has ceased to exist. This is nothing new, it’s actually been a thing for a while now. Starting today, I am taking the initiative to change that.

The only way to make something of quality, is just to consistently create. Between this blog, and my youtube channel – I’m ready to start creating on a somewhat regular schedule. Come say hi on youtube if you’re into that sort of thing!

Naked depth: Urban Decay Naked Smoky

Let’s talk about the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette. I snagged this palette in July, after soaking up all of the hype it created online. With my skin tone being neither warm nor cool, eyeshadow palettes are always such a toss up. If you know me, you know that the Naked 3 palette is my all time favorite, most used and most loved palette. The Naked Smoky on the other hand – took me quite a while to get comfortable with.

Naked palettes will always be at the top of the game, simply because of the shadow consistency and the pigmentation – which are without a doubt the best. The Naked Smoky contains a lot of cooler shades, as well as a couple of really strong glitters. Day to day, I found myself reaching for my Naked 3 instead, justifying the fact that because the Naked Smoky is so much cooler and darker, I would use it for nights out (the joke here is that I barely go out so I barely used it). It really wasn’t until this week that I started to play with it more and discovered the two everyday shades that I somehow managed to overlook for the past couple of months.

The two shades I am talking about are “combust” and “thirteen”. Shades like combust have never been my favorite. They’re too close to my skin tone and tend to make my eyes look muddy (or at least that’s what I thought). In the original Naked palette, I usually stayed away from the matte shadows because they were never as smooth as I wanted them to be.

I don’t know what got into me, but I applied “thirteen” as my base and then started work “combust” into my crease. I swear, I have never been more amazed by a neutral eyeshadow look. “Combust” can be worked up to such a depth that it almost looks like I’ve applied a third shadow for dimension. This is now my go-to, everyday shadow look. You guys wanna know what the best part is? Since it’s so subtle and beautiful, you can rock it with just about any bold lip you want. What more could I ask for during chilly October?

And last but not least, this is what my current daily makeup consists of (I think a little video tutorial might be coming soon):

  1. Kat Von D, Shade + Light palette (contour kit)
  2. Urban Decay, Naked Smoky (shadows)
  3. Bobbi Brown, Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil, Blonde
  4. Nars, Sheer Glow, Deauville (foundation)
  5. Nars, Deepthroat (blush)
  6. Rimmel, Kate, 08 (lipstick)
  7. Beauty Blender (applicator)
  8. Maybelline, Age Rewind (concealer)
  9. Urban Decay, Primer Potion (shadow base)
  10. Too Faced, Better Than Sex (mascara)

Tell me things! Are you all doing well? Are you loving or hating the Naked Smoky palette? Talk to me, damn it (just kidding, but it’d be awesome if you did).

Till next time,

Positively Curvy

Favorite fall / autumn lipsticks

Hi friends!

It’s my fifth day without a working computer, and to be honest – I’m starting to go a little crazy. Perhaps what I miss most is working on this blog. Sharing thoughts and photos with you all is one of my favorite things!

This week I’m coming to you with a post from my phone, so the image quality is going to be a little shotty – but bear with me and I’ll be back at full force by next week.

1. Mac Velvet Teddy

This is such a classic. Wasn’t it like the Kylie Jenner lipstick or something? Not being up to date on such things, I actually picked this up randomly about a week ago. It’s completely matte and a kind of reddy-brown color. It’s pretty warm toned, but that’s what makes it so easy to wear.

2. Rimmel Kate 08

This is almost like a velvety, non-matte version of a Velvet Teddy. Also, it smells like bubble gum!! The color payoff is amazing, it’s comfortable to wear, stays on for a good couple of hours and is super affordable. This might be my most used lipstick this fall.

3. Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 225

When it comes to gloomy days, this darker lip color is such a treat. It glides on, leaves a minty tingle on your lips and most importantly doesn’t dry them out. Also can we talk about how affordable this is? Love love love!

I realize that I’ve come a long way in the last few years – especially in terms of wearing bolder lip colors.

What’s your favorite fall lipstick? Let me know in the comments!

Till next time,

A little LUSH haul

Hello again friends!

This week I went to Lush and picked up a couple of products. I didn’t go in with the intention of picking up some seasonal products, but I couldn’t help myself. One thing that’s new for me, is that I finally have a bathtub. I know it sounds so strange, but I’ve spent the past 4 years living in dorms with showers, so a nice relaxing bath was absolutely always out of the question. Now that I’ve moved into this new apartment, I find myself filling up the tub once or twice a week, and it helps soothe my anxiety quite a bit. What it doesn’t help soothe, is my eczema – but I’m not about to start taking oatmeal baths. Although, I have found that Lush products are a lot easier on my skin, which makes sense because they’re 100% natural. Without rambling on too much, here’s what I got!

1. Bar Humbug Bubble Bar
“It’s all humbug, I tell you. Humbug! If the Christmassy sights seem horrible as can be, cleansing tarragon mixed with relaxing fennel provide a welcome antidote.” – [Lush Website]
Apparently, this is a bubble bar for people that don’t like all the christmasy festivities, all of the time. And to be honest, while I enjoy Christmas – any social gathering drains me like nothing else. Although extremely outgoing, I’m an extreme introvert and would rather take a bath (or watch Netflix), than go out for a couple of drinks. This bubble bar is beautiful, purple, swirly, and covered in glitter. It has hints of licorice as well as Illipe butter in it, and while I’m not a huge licorice lover – this bubble bar smells absolutely amazing to me.

2. Mask of Magnaminty
“Easily smoothed over the skin anywhere you like, this mask is made with peppermint oil to stimulate, marigold oil and chlorophyllin to treat the skin; evening primrose seeds and aduki beans to gently exfoliate as you remove it. There’s also mineral rich kaolin to nourish, antibacterial honey, and peppermint oil to stimulate the blood cells just under the surface of your skin to leave it looking bright and refreshed.” -[Lush Website]
This mask was the reason I got off my butt and headed to Lush in the first place. I have heard the most amazing things about the Mask of Magnaminty, and while I haven’t used it yet – the smell by itself was enough for me to fall in love with it. I mean, it smells like straight up mint chocolate chip ice cream. What’s not to love?

*edit: I tried it and I loved it and here’s a selfie!

3. Golden Wonder Bath Bomb
“Cognac and zesty lime oils start a party of mood-brightening scents whilst sweet orange oil refreshes the senses.” – [Lush Website]
The first thing I noticed about this bath bomb, aside from the fact that it’s HUGE, is that it rattles. Upon doing my research (aka watching youtube videos of the bath bomb dissolving) I found out that this bath bomb is very cleverly disguised to look simple. The inside is bright turquoise, and the rattling? Little silvers stars that float in the water. Not to mention that it smells absolutely amazing. I’m so excited to use it!

4. Luxury Pud Bath Bomb
“Catch 40 winks on Christmas Eve with islands of sleepy foam and comforting lavender.” – [Lush Website]
This bath bomb is a walking contradiction. In the water, it is the most hectic explosion of colors, resulting in a bright magenta bath. But the scent? Lavender and pure relaxation. I guess you always need to balance out the two opposite ends of the spectrum!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these or if you have any must-try Lush recommendations! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Easy Peasy Morning Skincare Routine

Hello friends!

I’m here with a skincare / beauty post for you today. Skincare has always been such a hassle for me, because I’ve suffered from eczema ever since I can remember. Although, as of recently, I have settled on a morning skincare routine that has been doing wonders for my face. My skin is a lot more clear, I don’t break out as much, and my eczema hasn’t flared up in ages. Here are some of my favorite products.

1. Clarisonic Mia 1

Okay, I know this is a gadget and not a product, but this little thing has changed my life. I know that sounds so dramatic but to be honest with you, I’ve never really known what clean skin feels like. The first time I used it I was like “oh my god, I’ve lived with dirt on my face for 22 years”. But dirt no more, as this thing vibrates and buzzes, and gets in your pores all while being super gentle. It is fairly pricy, but there’s a little bundle on the Sephora website for $99.

Side note: I am currently using the Clarisonic Gel Cleanser that comes in the Sephora bundle, and I am really enjoying it.

2. Clinique “All about eyes” eye cream

I love this whole ultra-hydrating range. Again, because of my eczema i need something that is very hydrating, but is also light enough to let my skin breathe. This is a win all around, and I have probably repurchased it three times already.

3. Origins GinZing Moisturizer

This is by far my favorite moisturizer, especially for the summer. It’s loaded with caffeine and it smells like oranges. I love that it’s hydrating but doesn’t leave my skin feeling tacky, and again, it’s hydrating but also very light. This is a holy grail summertime moisturizer in my book and I have been repurchasing it ever summer for the last three years!

And last but not least, I made a quick little video about how all of this goes down.

Till next time,

Big changes coming (y)our way!

Hello dearest blogger friends,

I am back, and I am back for good. Before I jump in with regular blog posts, I would love to update you on my life so we can all be on the same page on what you will be seeing if you come to this site!

First off, location.

After spending a couple of months working and living in New York City (which was absolutely amazing, and I will follow up with a whole blog post about this), I attended my graduation (woohooo!) and went off to do a little west-coast trip with my parents. We covered Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco (wait for a blog post about this one also). Once our trip was up, I moved into a small studio apartment with my boyfriend in  Madison, Wisconsin. My summer in Madison was a good time! I made wonderful new friends, got my first taste of working in retail, had a job I thoroughly enjoyed, and a job that was just okay (that only lasted a month). All was well, but I wasn’t making enough money to be able to afford rent, and I wasn’t in the right mental state to start actively writing again. With our short lease coming to an end, I made the crazy decision to move to Brussels, Belgium where my parents happen to be living at the moment. This unfortunately meant that I would be in a long-distance relationship yet again, but life is like this sometimes and I have kind of learned to deal with it and work toward what I want. But alas, I AM IN BRUSSELS!!! Not only that, but I feel like I am finally in the ideal state to really focus on writing again. This past week has been filled with exploring, adventures, and not too many other distractions (and lots of coffee). Not just that, I also find that the apartment I am living in is very bright and that in itself is pure motivation for productivity.

Anyway. now that I am here, here’s what you should expect:

  1. Exploring Brussels / Belgium / Europe. Okay, I am admittedly NOT a travel blogger, but I really enjoy experiencing new cities, and I particularly enjoy doing it through coffee shops. Expect blog posts filled with beautiful places to sit down, grab a latte, perhaps a nice meal and write/read/enjoy your day.
  2. Food and Health. Right, going from coffee shops to food and health seems kind of weird, but food has become a very important part of my day-to-day life. This is the year that I have decided to get healthy no matter what it takes, and while living in Madison I was following the Ideal Protein Protocol (diet, if you must). I am currently not on any program, but I am researching similar diet plans in Brussels. If you know of anything to recommend, help a girl out. I will also be exploring yoga, meditation, and ways to promote mental health.
  3. Beauty and Fashion. I mean come on, what would Positively Curvy be without my huge love for beauty products and (here and there) clothing discoveries? I will be posting product reviews as well as body-loving, body-positive, body-celebrating posts. And probably outfits of the day because you can never go wrong with those.
  4. Home decor. This is a new one for me, but I am currently in the process of redecorating my new room and making it the perfect creative /productive / calming space. Expect homeware hauls and favorites, and if you would like to help me along the way, please don’t hesitate to send me links to things that look cool. I would love that.

So here we are! Starting Monday (and maybe this weekend if I’m feeling super antsy to post something) come back three times a week for (hopefully) something fresh and different. I hope to make friends here, so please do reach out and say hi in the comments!

Looking forward to an exciting start,
