Easy Peasy Morning Skincare Routine

Hello friends!

I’m here with a skincare / beauty post for you today. Skincare has always been such a hassle for me, because I’ve suffered from eczema ever since I can remember. Although, as of recently, I have settled on a morning skincare routine that has been doing wonders for my face. My skin is a lot more clear, I don’t break out as much, and my eczema hasn’t flared up in ages. Here are some of my favorite products.

1. Clarisonic Mia 1

Okay, I know this is a gadget and not a product, but this little thing has changed my life. I know that sounds so dramatic but to be honest with you, I’ve never really known what clean skin feels like. The first time I used it I was like “oh my god, I’ve lived with dirt on my face for 22 years”. But dirt no more, as this thing vibrates and buzzes, and gets in your pores all while being super gentle. It is fairly pricy, but there’s a little bundle on the Sephora website for $99.

Side note: I am currently using the Clarisonic Gel Cleanser that comes in the Sephora bundle, and I am really enjoying it.

2. Clinique “All about eyes” eye cream

I love this whole ultra-hydrating range. Again, because of my eczema i need something that is very hydrating, but is also light enough to let my skin breathe. This is a win all around, and I have probably repurchased it three times already.

3. Origins GinZing Moisturizer

This is by far my favorite moisturizer, especially for the summer. It’s loaded with caffeine and it smells like oranges. I love that it’s hydrating but doesn’t leave my skin feeling tacky, and again, it’s hydrating but also very light. This is a holy grail summertime moisturizer in my book and I have been repurchasing it ever summer for the last three years!

And last but not least, I made a quick little video about how all of this goes down.

Till next time,

Foodie Review: Peck 47

I have only been in Brussels for about two weeks, and the one spot that I have officially come back to on three different occasions is the one and only Peck 47. If you’re spending your day sightseeing around Brussels and you happen to be looking for breakfast, lunch, or a place to unwind, I would strongly recommend giving Peck 47 a chance.

Location:
Rue du Marché aux Poulets 47, 1000 Bruxelles

  • Located just a few minutes from Manneken Pis (teeny tiny peeing boy statue) and Grand Place, this place is ideal on a sunny day.

Vibe:

  • The decor of this little cafe is artsy, featuring a number of modern / minimalist movie posters, a huge sign that says “Follow Your Dreams”, a sassy Lana Del Ray poster, as well as a chalkboard wall featuring two rabbits having a cute conversation (fully equipped with googley eyes).
  • The staff is SO friendly. Every time I’ve been there, they have been more than happy to chat, explain the menu as well as recommend items depending on your likes / dislikes / mood.
  • I would say that it’s totally fine to come in here by yourself with a book, or even a lap top and get some work done (as long as you don’t mind the chitter chatter of other people in the cafe.

Food / Drink:

Before I start, I have to say – the reason I picked this as the first place to write about is because I have never had a negative experience with the food. It’s all absolutely amazing.

  • They have a unique little selection of fresh juices and smoothies. I have tried the Watermelon, Lime and Lemongrass juice (which is SO refreshing, not overly sweet, and feels like a shot of hydration) as well as the Vanilla, Lemon and Basil smoothie (very smooth, light, and slightly sweet). They do also always have fresh squeezed lemonade, which appeared to be mixed with raspberries today.
  • Tea tea tea tea TEA (and lattes, of course). Although I am typically a latte girl, which is what I got the first time there and it was delicious, the Peck 47 menu features an extremely unique selection of teas. I had the “Mademoiselle” tea, which was light, fruity and decadent. This is a place where you will find teas that you can’t find elsewhere. They’re also €2.50 a cup, so it can’t get better than that.
  • Fooooood. I’m such a foodie, and I basically melt of happy feels when something looks good on a plate. Peck 47 definitely did not disappoint in this department. I would recommend the “Mediterranean Veg” salad (which is full of quinoa goodness), as well as “The Pecker” salad which my friend Kyle raved about. If salads aren’t you forte, there’s a sandwich called Kevin Bacon (genius) as well as Cheesy Waffles (which people online rave about but I have yet to try).
  • And of course, there’s always a bit of room for dessert. I tried some of the dark chocolate orange cake which was a lot lighter than it sounds and I would imagine that it would pair amazingly with some breakfast / black tea. They also have a vegan green tea cake which seems to be popular within the cafe.

Let me know if you visit this cute little spot and happen upon something amazingly delicious that I need to try!

Big changes coming (y)our way!

Hello dearest blogger friends,

I am back, and I am back for good. Before I jump in with regular blog posts, I would love to update you on my life so we can all be on the same page on what you will be seeing if you come to this site!

First off, location.

After spending a couple of months working and living in New York City (which was absolutely amazing, and I will follow up with a whole blog post about this), I attended my graduation (woohooo!) and went off to do a little west-coast trip with my parents. We covered Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco (wait for a blog post about this one also). Once our trip was up, I moved into a small studio apartment with my boyfriend in  Madison, Wisconsin. My summer in Madison was a good time! I made wonderful new friends, got my first taste of working in retail, had a job I thoroughly enjoyed, and a job that was just okay (that only lasted a month). All was well, but I wasn’t making enough money to be able to afford rent, and I wasn’t in the right mental state to start actively writing again. With our short lease coming to an end, I made the crazy decision to move to Brussels, Belgium where my parents happen to be living at the moment. This unfortunately meant that I would be in a long-distance relationship yet again, but life is like this sometimes and I have kind of learned to deal with it and work toward what I want. But alas, I AM IN BRUSSELS!!! Not only that, but I feel like I am finally in the ideal state to really focus on writing again. This past week has been filled with exploring, adventures, and not too many other distractions (and lots of coffee). Not just that, I also find that the apartment I am living in is very bright and that in itself is pure motivation for productivity.

Anyway. now that I am here, here’s what you should expect:

  1. Exploring Brussels / Belgium / Europe. Okay, I am admittedly NOT a travel blogger, but I really enjoy experiencing new cities, and I particularly enjoy doing it through coffee shops. Expect blog posts filled with beautiful places to sit down, grab a latte, perhaps a nice meal and write/read/enjoy your day.
  2. Food and Health. Right, going from coffee shops to food and health seems kind of weird, but food has become a very important part of my day-to-day life. This is the year that I have decided to get healthy no matter what it takes, and while living in Madison I was following the Ideal Protein Protocol (diet, if you must). I am currently not on any program, but I am researching similar diet plans in Brussels. If you know of anything to recommend, help a girl out. I will also be exploring yoga, meditation, and ways to promote mental health.
  3. Beauty and Fashion. I mean come on, what would Positively Curvy be without my huge love for beauty products and (here and there) clothing discoveries? I will be posting product reviews as well as body-loving, body-positive, body-celebrating posts. And probably outfits of the day because you can never go wrong with those.
  4. Home decor. This is a new one for me, but I am currently in the process of redecorating my new room and making it the perfect creative /productive / calming space. Expect homeware hauls and favorites, and if you would like to help me along the way, please don’t hesitate to send me links to things that look cool. I would love that.

So here we are! Starting Monday (and maybe this weekend if I’m feeling super antsy to post something) come back three times a week for (hopefully) something fresh and different. I hope to make friends here, so please do reach out and say hi in the comments!

Looking forward to an exciting start,
-PositivelyCurvy
